CERTIFICATE PROGRAM
Elementary and Secondary

This program would benefit instructors who are currently teaching International Languages Saturday program and who are interested in teaching these classes during the Saturday or summer program.  Entry Requirements: Verbal and Written knowledge of a Second Language

Free: For YCDSB instructors currently teaching the Internatioanl Languages Program duringthe day or on Saturdays.  A consumable fee of $49 applies.

ELEMENTARY
The program is taught by experts in the field with many years of experience  

FOUNDATION PROGRAM CONTENT:

  • philosophy and goals of the International Languages
  • student expectations
  • networking and utilizing community resources in various languages teaching styles and approaches
  • classroom management techniques, establishing a positive learning environment
  • effective strategies in dealing with multi-level language classes
  • creating an effective lesson
  • preparing  cultural activities in the arts
  • preparing students for culminating activities
  • organizing effective concerts


LEADERSHIP PROGRAM CONTENT:

  • additional discussion about philosophy and expectations
of International Languages
  • reflective teaching
  • creating lesson, long-range and unit plans
  • application of new approaches and methods in second language teaching/learning
  • continuation of assessment and evaluation
  • dealing with the multilevel class
SECONDARY
The program is taught by experts in the field with many years of experience

  • networking and utilizing community resources in various languages
  • teaching styles and approaches

  • overview of course expectations for levels A,B,C and D

  • evaluation and assessment
  • preparing students for Culminating Performance Tasks
  • organizing effective concerts


LEADERSHIP PROGRAM CONTENT:

  • researching and examining of the International Languages
  • recent research relating to International Languages learning
  • leadership role in International Languages Saturday Program
  • continuation of assessment and evaluation
  • continuation of assessment and evaluation
  • dealing with the multilevel class
  • participation in an International Languages Symposium
  • facilitating a workshop in the target language
